Audio

Here are the pads for the audio section of the NESRGB board. There is a pad labelled 'B' in both the audio and video sections. Be careful not to mix them up.

Pad name Connection point on NES Connection point on Famicom
Description
45 (unused)
Cartridge pin 45, cut original PCB track
Dummy audio output for cartridge.
46 Cartridge pin 51*
Cartridge pin 46 Cartridge audio input.
AO -
-
Audio driver output.
A CPU pin 1
CPU pin 1
Pulse wave audio input.
B CPU pin 2
CPU pin 2
Triangle/noise/DPCM audio input.

* Cartridge pin 51 is connected to expansion port pin 6 (know as EXP9) on the front loading NES and it may be easier to connect a wire here.

The top loading NES does not have a pin 51 fitted to the connector. To get cartridge audio on this console, you will need to use cartridge pin 54 instead, and solder a jumper wire between pins 51 and 54 inside the Everdrive cartridge.

The audio mixing point is still present (just like the on NESRGB 1-4) but I don't recommend its use. The dedicated '46' cartridge audio input can be switched off via the on-screen menu. This is useful on NES consoles as a unconnected audio input may pick up digital signal noise capacitively coupled from nearby PCB tracks inside the console.
