2600RGB Test Mode (version 2 hardware)

Test mode is for testing the hardware of a 2600RGB board. There are 42 separate tests, the state of the orange LEDs will indicate which test is running. Test mode should be be run while the 2600RGB board is not installed in the console or and does not have an Atari TIA mounted on top. The state of solder jumper JP5 is read on power-up. If it is closed the board will enter test mode and remain there until power-down. JP4 must be open for the LEDs to be visible. Use a pushbutton (or a pair of metal tweezers) connected between 'P' and GND to advance to the next test.

A circle around the pad on the PCB silkscreen indicates there is a test for it.

The video test pattern. The audio tone sounds like this.

Above is an example of the board wired for testing. A pair of wires supply power to the 2600RGB board, but is otherwise unconnected to the console. A single wire withe a tinned end is used for a test probe. Tests 0 and 2 are visual tests, all the rest are pass/fail tests. The green LED indicates a pass and the red, a failure. For tests 3-41 (probe tests), the result is only valid while the probe is in contact with the appropriate pin.

Orange LEDs Test description
0. Visual LED test. All seven LEDs come on (five orange, one red, one green).
1. On-board oscillator test.
2. Audio/video test. RGB, s-video, composite video output a gradient test pattern (60Hz, NTSC). Audio outputs a pulsing tone.
3. Probe test - GND, pin 1. (testing the probe input)
4. Probe test - +5V, pin 20. (testing the probe input)
5. Probe test - Sync in, pin 2.
